An interview always costs $20.00 or less, depending on your insurance or plan.

Never. Our goal is to help you get easy access to high-quality, affordable care. If it turns out we can't treat you through SmartExam, then there's no charge to you.

If we know your insurance covers electronic visits, we can bill the primary insurance on file with your care provider. If you're asked to enter billing information, one of the following has occurred:
  • You don't have active insurance on file with your care provider
  • We haven't confirmed your primary insurance covers electronic visits
If you believe this service is covered by your insurance, you may submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement. If this isn't a covered service, the cost won't count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.

We're always growing our list of pharmacies. For now, pick the closest pharmacy, or choose a national pharmacy chain. National chains can transfer prescriptions to their other locations.

Absolutely. If you need prescription medications, your provider will send the prescriptions directly to the pharmacy of your choice.

Your provider reviews your interview and provides the best treatment for your condition. Antibiotics are only prescribed if they will help you.

When deciding whether to prescribe antibiotics, your provider takes several factors into account. First, based on your symptoms, your provider decides whether your condition is likely caused by bacteria or viruses. Antibiotics kill bacteria, but they don't kill viruses. Most coughs, colds, flu, sore throats, and runny noses are caused by viruses. Taking antibiotics for viral infections does not cure those viral infections.

Next, your provider weighs the potential harmful effects of antibiotics. Antibiotics may cause new symptoms, such as nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain. In fact, antibiotics cause the most emergency visits for adverse drug events: Every year, nearly 100,000 adults are treated in emergency departments due to adverse events from antibiotics.

Your provider also considers how resistant your condition may be to antibiotics. Antibiotic resistance is an urgent worldwide health crisis that can have serious consequences for current and future generations. Drug prices change from time to time, and sometimes they do so suddenly. When creating your treatment plan, your provider considers the price of medications. When possible, they recommend cheaper alternatives, including generic forms and non-prescription medications.

It takes about 15 minutes to finish an interview. Just like when you come into the doctor's office, we ask different questions based on your symptoms and condition. As a result, the actual time it takes to finish depends on your unique circumstances.

Sometimes your doctor isn't available when you need care. If your doctor isn't available, a licensed provider who is part of your care team will treat you. A copy of your interview is always made available to your doctor as part of your medical record.

Yes. That's one of the unique values of getting care through SmartExam. Unlike some online care companies, we make sure the care you receive through SmartExam is coordinated with your overall care needs. A copy of your interview is always included in your medical record.

For desktops and laptops, we support the latest versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer 10+. On mobile devices, we support the latest versions of Safari and Android Chrome.

You never need to use video for an interview. For some conditions, such as rashes and burns, we need to see pictures to make a diagnosis. If pictures are needed, you can take them using your mobile device or computer.
